Telegram not replying

What to check when your bot does not answer, answers that it does not recognize you, or says it is temporarily unavailable.

Start with what the bot says back, because each reply points to a different cause.

The bot replies "I don't recognize you yet"

Your Telegram account is not linked to anyone on your roster yet. The bot is working; it just does not know who you are.

  • Owners: go back to setup (or Integrations, then Telegram), tap Open my bot in Telegram and press the Start button at the bottom of the chat.
  • Crew: open the link your manager texted you and press Start.

Typing "hi" never links an account. Only Start from a link does. The same reply includes your Telegram user ID: as a fallback, an owner can paste that number into the person's Telegram user ID field on the roster.

Each link works once and expires after 24 hours. Open a fresh one: owners from setup or the Integrations page, crew by asking their manager to send the onboarding link again.

The bot says the account "is already linked to" someone else

One Telegram account can belong to only one person on the roster. If it shows the wrong name, fix it on the roster: clear the Telegram user ID on the wrong person and link the right one.

The bot replies "Sorry, I'm temporarily unavailable"

The assistant is paused for the whole account, for everyone. Most often the account has used up its AI Credits for the period. The owner gets a separate message saying how to add more under Plan & Billing; crew only see the neutral reply, on purpose. See AI Credits.

If credits are not the cause, email support.

The bot does not reply at all

Check the connection

Open Integrations. Telegram should say Working. Press Check again to test it now instead of waiting for the regular 15-minute check.

Check the token

If Telegram shows a problem, the bot token may have changed, for example if someone revoked it in BotFather. Get the current token from BotFather (/mybots, pick the bot, API Token) and paste it into the Telegram connection.

Make sure you are messaging the right bot

Check the @handle shown on the Integrations page matches the chat you are typing in. An old test bot looks the same in the chat list.

Give it a moment

A normal answer takes a few seconds, usually after a quick acknowledgement. Requests like an event poster take a few minutes and arrive as a separate message.

Briefings or reminders are not arriving

Scheduled messages each have their own switch on the Automations page. Check the automation is on, check its time, and remember that crew only get a briefing on days they work an event. See The morning briefing.
